Job summary

Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin Inc seeks a Wisconsin-based 988 Lifeline Counselor to support people in crisis by phone, text, and chat. You will listen with empathy, assess safety needs, and help callers identify the next steps in their care.

The role offers remote, hybrid, or in-person options across Wisconsin, with training, coaching, and ongoing supervision to support callers and teammates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, Sociology, Behavioral Sciences, or related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in behavioral health, crisis intervention, counseling, case management, or related fields.
• Willingness to learn and follow established protocols; strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate crisis support through phone, text, and chat
• Listen without judgment and build rapport with individuals in distress
• Assess safety and navigate behavioral health, substance use, relationships, and basic-needs issues
• Collaborate to develop safety plans and identify practical next steps
• Connect individuals with behavioral health and community resources across Wisconsin
• Coordinate crisis or emergency support when needed
• Complete timely, accurate documentation
• Engage in ongoing coaching, supervision, and professional development
• Work with a team that values collaboration, learning, and improvement
