Job summary

Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin Inc. is seeking a dedicated 988 Wisconsin Lifeline Counselor to provide compassionate crisis support by phone, text, and chat.

You will listen, assess safety, and help callers identify practical next steps while coordinating with community resources across Wisconsin. This role offers remote, hybrid, or in-person options and requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience as permitted by regulation.
• At least one year of experience in behavioral health, crisis intervention, counseling, case management, human services, or related education/training.
• Experience supporting individuals with mental health or substance-use concerns or providing crisis intervention is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate crisis support through phone, text, and chat.
• Listen without judgment and build rapport with people experiencing emotional distress.
• Assess safety and help individuals navigate behavioral health and other life challenges.
• Collaborate with help seekers to develop safety plans and practical next steps.
• Connect individuals with behavioral health and community resources across Wisconsin.
• Coordinate additional crisis or emergency support when necessary.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation.
• Participate in ongoing coaching, supervision, training, and professional development.
• Work with a team that values collaboration, learning, respect, and continuous improvement.
