Job summary

Family Service League Inc. seeks a full-time Peer Specialist to support crisis services in Hauppauge, NY. Use lived experience to engage clients, assist with linkage to resources, and participate in crisis assessments with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include outreach, motivational interviewing, Narcan training, and coordinating care planning. Requires NYCPS/CRPS certification or progress toward it, and flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • NYCPS or CRPS certification required; must obtain within six months if not currently certified.
  • Relevant life experience; peer role preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; meet deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with EHR and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Evening and weekend hours required.
  • Valid NY State Driver’s License and ability to operate a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach to clients and families in the field, by phone and in person.
  • Facilitate engagement in services and link to community resources.
  • Participate in Crisis Assessments and linkages as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide recovery readiness support through linkage to community resources.
  • Provide warm hand-off to all levels of treatment.
  • Provide person-centered care and share lived experience to facilitate engagement.
  • Coordinate with collateral contacts, including family and other providers.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing to assist individuals in readiness for change.
  • Provide opioid overdose education and train individuals and families to use Narcan.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to assess and link clients to services.
  • Coordinate care planning with other providers to ensure collaborative care.
  • Act as a resource to team members on community-based recovery supports.
  • Complete documentation in the Electronic Health Record according to regulations.
