Job summary

Lutheran Family Services is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join the Crisis Response Team in Lincoln, NE. You will provide emergency crisis coverage, telehealth assessments, and short-term stabilization for individuals in behavioral health crisis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must hold or be willing to obtain Peer Support Certification within 12 months of hire.
• Must be willing to identify as a former or current consumer of mental health/substance services.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency crisis coverage to law enforcement for adults/youth in crisis.
• Provide telehealth crisis assessments and recommendations to law enforcement and individuals in crisis.
• Assist in de-escalation to crisis stabilization and diversion as appropriate.
• Evaluate and assess severity of mental/behavioral health symptoms.
• Provide short-term post-crisis stabilization for engaged consumers.
• Identify natural supports and community resources to aid stabilization.
• Develop safety, treatment, and intervention plans as needed.
• Provide crisis safety plans when EPC or hospital placement is not required.
• Complete required program documentation; participate in on-call rotations.
• Cover five shifts per month, including at least one weekend/holiday shift.
• Engage clients in recovery through active listening and connection to resources.
• Participate in supervision and team meetings; represent LFS at community meetings.
