Job summary

City of Durham’s Community Safety Department is hiring EMTs for Community Response Teams. You will respond to 911 calls involving behavioral health crises, provide prehospital medical care, and collaborate with clinicians and peers to de-escalate situations.

This full-time role requires EMT certification, NC OEMS Basic EMT, a valid NC driver’s license, and a commitment to equity and resident-centered approaches in serving Durham’s neighbors.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• NC OEMS Basic EMT certification.
• Valid, unrestricted NC driver’s license or willingness to obtain NC license within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Respond to 911 calls related to behavioral health crises and related concerns.
• Provide prehospital medical care and administer approved medications.
• Collaborate with Crisis Response Team members and clinicians to develop and implement response plans.
• Maintain documentation and equipment in proper working order.
• Engage with neighbors and communities using trauma-informed crisis intervention strategies.
