City of Chicago seeks motivated Emergency Medical Technicians to join the Bureau of Behavioral Health. EMTs will respond to crisis calls, assess and stabilize patients, provide basic life support, and coordinate care with CPD/CFD.

The role supports the Department of Public Health’s mission to deliver equitable, compassionate services across Chicago. Positions are open to the public and current City employees under AFSCME bargaining units; starting salary is $47,364 with potential for dedicated

Competenze

• 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or GED
• Current CPR certification
• Current State of Illinois EMT or Paramedic license
• Credentialing under Region 11, Chicago EMS Systems including EMS System Entry and all required EMS Continuing Education updates for maintenance once hired
• Valid State of Illinois driver's license is required
• Pass a background check

Mansioni

• Respond to 911 calls and crisis lifelines with behavioral health component; provide crisis assessment, intervention, de-escalation, safety planning, referrals, and linkage to care.
• Interact with public safety departments and first responders, assist CPD/CFD and medical emergencies.
• Conduct outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness or serious mental illness for needed services.
• Deliver compassionate, trauma-informed, patient-centered care.
• Perform patient care assessments and maintain accurate medical records per standards.
• Assess vital signs and provide basic prehospital care.
• Navigate healthcare system for appropriate transport to facilities.
• Operate and maintain City vehicles for emergency response.
• Participate in meetings, in-services, and supervision.

Formazione

High school diploma or GED

Current CPR certification

Current State of Illinois EMT or Paramedic license
