Job summary

State of South Carolina’s Office of Mental Health seeks a Mental Health Professional I to screen and assess individuals, provide crisis intervention, and coordinate referrals within a community policing framework. The role supports collaboration with law enforcement and community partners to promote wellness and safety.

The position requires a master’s degree in a related field, flexible scheduling, and travel as needed. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus for serving diverse communities.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or related field.
• Must be able to work efficiently and effectively within a flexible schedule.
• Must be able to alternate between sitting and standing, with some travel requirements.
• Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide mental health screening, assessments, and crisis intervention to children, adolescents, and adults identified by local law enforcement.
• Arrange referrals and disposition for cases requiring a different level of care.
• Provide other treatment related services and functions within a community policing model that includes riding along with officers, staffing calls to determine next steps, deescalating community members as appropriate, and offering collaborative follow-up practices.
• Serve as liaison with probate court and other agencies to facilitate treatment and coordinate referrals of community members.
• Maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, OMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, CARE, and MBPD.
