Job description

Cummins Behavioral Health Systems is seeking a full-time or part-time Certified Peer Support Professional (CPSP) to be part of our 24/7 mobile crisis team in Avon, Indiana within Hendricks County.

This position serves the mental health and addiction treatment population experiencing crisis. The role works closely with local community crisis systems, including but not limited to law enforcement, emergency medical technicians, and hospital emergency rooms. The position is mobile when necessary in coordination with other community safety response systems and may involve various shifts of the day/evening or the week and weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Flexible hours within a 24‑hour schedule. 12‑hour shifts are either 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with shift rotation of 4 one week and 3 the following week. Available shifts include daytime, evening, overnight, and weekends.
  • The Crisis Peer will be responsible for managing communication around a range of crisis situations, including telephone responses, in‑person care, and, when deemed necessary, becoming part of a mobile crisis response team.
  • A Crisis Peer will assist in providing risk assessments and de‑escalation interventions for both existing Cummins consumers and those not yet engaged in Cummins services.
  • When deemed necessary, crisis team members go mobile within Hendricks County and surrounding areas. Mobile teams travel to the home, school, or community to provide thorough crisis assessments and actionable steps to bring safety to the person in need, using contemporary evidence‑based practices.
  • Maintain positive, ethical, and professional working relationships with community, government agencies, and other professionals.
  • Promote a healthy work environment by demonstrating collaborative decision‑making and team‑building behaviors, providing peer support and motivating staff to outstanding performance.
  • Coordinate care with a variety of professionals and the consumer's natural support during and after assessments.
  • Write notes in an Electronic Medical Record to update the consumer's treatment team concerning crisis intervention contacts and operate PC‑based programs including Microsoft Word, Teams, and Outlook.
Education And/or Experience
  • Verify completion of a state‑approved Certified Peer Support Professional (CPSP) training program with a passing score on the certification exam and supporting verification documentation.
  • Have lived experience with mental health and/or addictions.
  • Have a minimum of 6 months employment experience as a Peer.
  • Hold a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid Indiana Driver's license.
