Job summary

Essex County Sheriff’s Department in Massachusetts is seeking a Junior Clerk to support the Criminal Records division. The role requires handling data entry, intake screenings, and maintaining inmate records, while ensuring confidentiality and adherence to department policies.

The position will operate in a full-time schedule with potential for second/third shift responsibilities, and will require effective communication with staff and the public.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED; CollegeDegree preferred with two (2) years’ experience in a similar capacity and a combination of education, training and experience which provide the knowledge and skills for the assignment.
• Must be computer literate and proficient in typing and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Perform data entry, prepare reports and handle administrative duties as assigned.
• Maintain accurate inmate records including court dates, charges, bail amounts, and release dates.
• Notify law enforcement agencies of discharge when required and update CJIS with inmate information.
• Respond to public and agency inquiries within department policies and procedures.
• File applications for criminal complaints and manage court documents delivery.
• Maintain a daily log of inmate status and schedule court listings for video conferencing and bail reviews.
