Job summary

Delaware Department of Justice is seeking a Legal Assistant to support Deputy Attorneys General in the Criminal Division, Special Victims Unit in Kent County. The role involves intake with police, managing case files, drafting subpoenas and motions, and coordinating discovery for felony cases.

The position requires strong organizational skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and experience with legal research, drafting, and interviewing.

Qualifications

• Three years’ employment with the Department of Justice in a similar capacity (Legal Assistant I/II)
• BA/Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field as required
• Two years’ experience in drafting legal documents and such as briefs or memoranda of law
• Two years’ experience in interviewing to obtain facts and explore issues
• Five years’ experience for Legal Assistant III in various competencies

Responsibilities

• Interview involved parties to gather discovery and case information.
• Maintain and organize case files with complete, accurate information.
• Draft legal pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and responses to interrogatories.
• Redact medical and police reports for discovery and case preparation.
• Review case law, statutes, and regulations to ensure proper citation.
