Benton County District Attorney's Office in Corvallis, OR is seeking a Crime Victim Advocate to provide services to crime victims and support their rights under the law.

The Advocate will navigate court proceedings, liaise with prosecutors, law enforcement and community resources, and prepare legal documents while working under supervision to ensure victims access to essential services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; AND
• At least 4 years of experience in Human or Social Services, Psychology, Education, Criminal Justice, Victim's Outreach Services, Community Projects or Community Justice.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
• Note: prefer experience in victim advocacy within a prosecution office.

Benton County is currently seeking for a Crime Victim Advocate to join our team. This position provides services to crime victims by assisting victims as they exercise their rights and utilize available services.

Job Summary

Navigates adult criminal and juvenile justice court proceedings and provides a broad spectrum of trauma informed services and support to crime victims. Liaison between victims, prosecutors, law enforcement and community resources. Reviews and evaluates cases to ensure all named victims have meaningful access to their rights under the law. Prepares correspondence, documentation and court pleadings and participates in various interagency activities. This position works under close to moderate supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; AND

Please note candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience (not internship experience) to be considered as equivalent. However, one year of internship experience in a prosecution office will be accepted in lieu of 1 year of work experience.

• Must pass a fingerprint-based background investigation and comply with all Federal, State and Local laws.
• Must successfully complete the State Victim Assistance Academy, Basic Victim Advocacy Certification within the first year of employment.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Victim advocacy experience in a prosecution office.
• Knowledge of the juvenile and adult criminal justice system and legal procedure including state and local laws, legal terminology and court processes/procedures.
• Considerable knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, documents, terminology, victimology, stress and crisis intervention techniques; court procedures and processes.
• Skills in operating basic office equipment including a personal computer utilizing word processing software.
• Skills in interacting with people under stressful conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
