Job summary

Benton County is seeking a Crime Victim Advocate to join their team. The role provides trauma-informed services to crime victims, helping them exercise their rights and access available resources.

The advocate will navigate court proceedings and coordinate with prosecutors, law enforcement and community services. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, and at least 4 years in related fields with advocacy experience in a prosecution office.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• At least 4 years of experience in Human/Social Services, Psychology, Education, Criminal Justice, Victim's Outreach or Community Justice, with 1 year in advocacy in a prosecution office.
• Equivalent education and experience may be accepted.
• Must have at least 6 months of actual work experience; internship in a prosecution office can count for 1 year of experience.

Crime Victim Advocate

Benton County is currently seeking for a Crime Victim Advocate to join our team. This position provides services to crime victims by assisting victims as they exercise their rights and utilize available services.

Job Summary

Navigates adult criminal and juvenile justice court proceedings and provides a broad spectrum of trauma informed services and support to crime victims. Liaison between victims, prosecutors, law enforcement and community resources. Reviews and evaluates cases to ensure all named victims have meaningful access to their rights under the law. Prepares correspondence, documentation and court pleadings and participates in various interagency activities. This position works under close to moderate supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; AND
• At least 4 years of experience in the field of Human or Social Services, Psychology, Education, Criminal Justice, Victim's Outreach Services, Community Projects or Community Justice. Additionally, one of the four years must be advocacy experience in a prosecution office.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Please note candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience (not internship experience) to be considered as equivalent. However, one year of internship experience in a prosecution office will be accepted in lieu of 1 year of work experience.

Special Requirements

• Must pass a fingerprint-based background investigation and comply with all Federal, State and Local laws.
• Must successfully complete the State Victim Assistance Academy, Basic Victim Advocacy Certification within the first year of employment.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Victim advocacy experience in a prosecution office.
• Knowledge of the juvenile and adult criminal justice system and legal procedure including state and local laws, legal terminology and court processes/procedures.
• Considerable knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, documents, terminology, victimology, stress and crisis intervention techniques; court procedures and processes.
• Skills in operating basic office equipment including a personal computer utilizing word processing software.
• Skills in interacting with people under stressful conditions
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public and other employees.
• Ability to make decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain records, reports and other data.
• Ability to use good judgment in carrying out tasks and responsibilities.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-centered environment.
• Ability to develop and maintain the confidence and cooperation of emotionally vulnerable individuals.

Your Total Compensation/Benefits

• Hourly salary of $24.52 - $35.16 hourly dependent upon education and experience.
