Under limited supervision of the administrative captain and/or command staff members, the Crime and Data Analyst develops, analyzes, and maintains systems to extract data from law enforcement reports, crime reports, traffic records, files, and a variety of other sources to ensure accurate and up-to-date statistical data.
Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and a valid drivers license. A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in the field of criminal justice, business management, public administration, social science, behavioral science, computer science, or related field is required. (Any acceptable combination of related education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered as a substitution.) Two years of experience in research analysis and statistics of criminal trend data is required. A certificate in crime analysis and/or intelligence analysis obtained through the International Association of Crime Analysts is required upon hire.
The selection process includes, but is not limited to, an interview. Prior to employment, candidates will complete a background investigation, polygraph examination, and physical examination to include a drug screen. The expected duration of the selection process will normally not exceed two months. Candidates not selected may reapply in the future.
