Job summary

Qualifications

3-5 years experience in crime analysis or intelligence analysis within a law enforcement or college safety environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Statistics, Data Analytics, GIS, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to provide crime analysis for a university law enforcement agency serving a diverse population.
Knowledge of statistical methods and probability theory to predict crime patterns.
Experience with relational databases for data storage and reporting.

Responsibilities

The UCLA Police Department (UCPD) is a university law enforcement agency dedicated to serving the diverse UCLA campus community, including faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Operating within a complex higher education environment, UCPD is responsible for maintaining public safety, preventing crime, and investigating criminal activity across campus physical structures, roadways, and designated jurisdictional areas. The department operates under University-wide Police Policies and Administrative Procedures. It utilizes advanced law enforcement tools, relational databases, and local, state, and federal intelligence networks (such as NCIC, CLETS, JDIC, and NIBRS) to support its operations. Through collaborative divisions, including Investigations, Patrol, and Crime Analysis, UCPD integrates data-driven intelligence and community outreach to optimize patrol deployment, enhance crime prevention strategies, and ensure a safe campus environment.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

3-5 years Experience in crime analysis, intelligence analysis, or quantitative research analysis within a law enforcement, criminal justice, or work in a college public safety environment. (Required) And
Degree Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Statistics, Data Analytics, GIS, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
Ability to provide crime analysis for a university law enforcement agency servicing a diverse population. (Required)
Working knowledge of statistical research methods and practical application of probability theory to predict crime patterns. (Required)
Working knowledge of crime analysis principles, functions, tools, methods, and sources of information. (Required)
Demonstrated working knowledge of computer relational database programs for data storage and report generation, including skill in organizing, manipulating, and retrieving data from manual and electronic files to relate information patterns. (Required)
Demonstrated skill in analyzing information, problems, or procedures to define objectives, identify relevant factors/patterns, and formulate logical, objective conclusions. (Required)
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills to interpret law enforcement documents, write concise reports with statistical graphics, present findings, and build cooperative working relationships across all levels. (Required)
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and compliance when accessing, analyzing, and disseminating sensitive law enforcement data, records, and intelligence from secure law enforcement databases. (Required)
Knowledge of NCIC, CLETS, JDIC, NIBRS, and Department of Justice databases. (Preferred)
Ability to use analytical software and tools, including, but not limited to: ArcGIS, Bair A.T.A.C., Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and Windows. (Preferred)
Knowledge of local ordinances and standard law enforcement practices. (Preferred)
General knowledge of the UCLA campus community (faculty, staff, students, physical structures, roadways, and jurisdictional responsibilities). (Preferred)
Working knowledge of university police department operational procedures, campus geography, jurisdictional responsibilities, and internal policies. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment

Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
Clery Act: The position is a designated CSA (Campus Security Authority) under Clery Act requirements.
5% Occasional travel may be required as part of this position.
