Job summary

Greenwood CPW is seeking an entry-level Water System Technician in Greenwood, SC. The role involves installing and maintaining water lines, hydrants, meters, and related infrastructure under supervision. Must be able to work in challenging weather, operate heavy equipment as required, and participate in on-call rotations.

• Water Distribution Operator Trainee Permit or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Level “D” Water Distribution Operator License within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform labor-intensive tasks (digging, hand tools, hauling, setting up work zones, directing traffic, maintaining right of ways).

Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $42,931.20 – $60,070.40

Location: Greenwood, SC

Hours: 7:00am – 5:30pm Monday – Thursday

Position Summary: Under occasional supervision, performs water system construction and maintenance; operates heavy equipment as required. Reports to the Crew Foreman.

Work Environment: Requires working in difficult weather conditions (rain, hot, cold, etc.); Physically demanding work; must be able to work in confined spaces, Requires being on an “on call” rotation. On-call requires responding to emergency calls 24/7, during employee’s scheduled on-call week or major weather events.

Required Skills and Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Requires a valid CDL license or the ability to obtain Class A CDL within 6 months of hire date. . Must possess an Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Certification or be able to obtain within one year of hire. Must possess a Water Distribution Operator Trainee Permit or be able to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Must possess a Level “D” Water Distribution Operator License within two (2) years of hire.

Essential Job Functions: This is an entry-level position, and duties include, but are not limited to, installing and maintaining water lines, valves, hydrants, water meters, etc. Employees perform labor-intensive tasks such as digging with shovels, using various hand tools, hauling equipment, setting up work zones, directing traffic, maintaining right of ways, etc. Employees must have great customer service skills and be able to effectively communicate with a wide range of people.
