Job summary

Desoto Group Inc seeks a qualified unit supervisor in Texas to lead maintenance teams for water and wastewater systems. You will plan and organize jobs, oversee repairs, coordinate inter-department projects, and maintain safety and records.

The role requires an Associate’s degree and 4 years of related field experience, plus a valid Texas driver’s license and TCEQ certificates. City benefits are provided, with expectations to uphold regulatory safety standards.

Qualifications

• 4 years of related work experience on a crew in construction or maintenance of water and wastewater systems.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Texas Class A or Class B driver’s license with good driving record.
• TCEQ-issued Class C Water Distribution Certificate or higher.
• TCEQ-issued Class II Wastewater Collection Certificate or higher.

Responsibilities

• Lead a unit or group by assigning work, scheduling equipment, overseeing maintenance and repairs, ensuring safety practices, and resolving issues.
• Review and schedule priorities; file and refer work orders; coordinate contract work as needed.
• Promote safe work environment through training, safety meetings, and proper equipment use; file claims if applicable.
• Maintain records by entering work information, recording maintenance activities, and tracking costs.
• Perform other assigned duties.

The purpose of the position is to provide first line support to a work group or unit completing operational, construction or maintenance activities. This is accomplished by planning and organizing jobs; overseeing maintenance and repairs; coordinating projects between departments; and maintaining records of work performed. Other duties include training and enforcing safety regulations.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Works as lead for a unit or group by assigning work unit tasks; scheduling equipment and services; overseeing the maintenance and repair of equipment; ensuring all safety practices are followed; and resolving unexpected problems;
• Schedules and assigns activities by reviewing and scheduling priorities; reviewing, recording, and filing work orders; and referring jobs for contract work;
• Strives for safe work environment by scheduling and attending training; scheduling safety meetings; ensuring safety equipment and risk practices are followed; and filing claims as they occur;
• Maintains records by entering work information; recording maintenance activities; and tracking job costs; and
• Performs other assigned duties.

Qualifications

• MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • Associate’s degree;
  • Four (4) years of related work experience on a crew in construction or maintenance of water and wastewater systems;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
  • Valid Driver’s License.
• LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Possession of a valid Texas Class A or Class B driver’s license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed;
  • Possession of TCEQ-issued Class C Water Distribution Certificate or higher;
  • Possession of TCEQ-issued Class II Wastewater Collection Certificate or higher.

Vacation

• Non-civil service employees accrue 6.67 hours per month (2 weeks per year).
