Job summary

Job description

Responsible forsupervisory work in the Public Works Department. This classis responsible forassistingin daily operations, maintenance, construction,andassistingwith supervising and coordinating activities of a labor crew. Workgenerally followsstandardized procedures but involves choice of action within clearly defined limits. Requires decisionsrelativeto the application of various established rules and procedures, which may affect quality, accuracy, or utility of results.

Working Conditions

Responsible for the satisfactory and safe operation of equipment under all types of weather conditions on paved and dirt roads. Ability to physical work related to the position. Work may be performed without direct supervision. Majority of tasks are performed outdoors and very frequently in extreme weather conditions. Subjected to insects, noxious fumes and constant noise. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical that screens for acceptable eyesight and hearing (with or without correction), the ability to sit for extended periods, and manual dexterity needed to operate job related machinery.

• Supervise skilled and semi-skilled workers in road and highway maintenance and construction operations

Minimum Experience: High School graduation and five (5)years’ experiencein equipment operations and supervision or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Possession of a valid Florida CDL Class B Driver’s Licenserequired.Columbia County residencyrequiredwithin six (6) months of date of employment.
