Job summary

IMEG is seeking a Crew Chief in Manassas, VA to lead daily field survey operations and support data collection for land surveying projects. You will direct field team members, perform boundary/topographic/construction stakeouts, and ensure safety and project alignment under supervision.

You will train team members on total stations, GPS, levels, and data collectors, while maintaining organized field data and delivering accurate deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or certificate in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering preferred.
  • 4+ years in construction surveying; 8+ years preferred.
  • Knowledge of surveying fundamentals and regional standards.
  • Experience with modern survey equipment and methods.
  • Valid driver's license; willingness to travel; MVR background check as required.

Job description

Crew Chief | Manassas, VA

IMEG is hiring a Crew Chief in Manassas, VA, to lead daily survey field crew operations and support the collection of accurate field data for land surveying projects. In this role, you will direct assigned field team members, help complete boundary, topographic, and construction stakeout work, and provide survey assistance under the leadership of an Office Coordinator or Senior Crew Chief. You’ll also help keep field operations organized, safe, and aligned with project needs.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform daily field crew operations for land surveying projects, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction stakeouts
  • Operate, maintain, and care for survey equipment, data collection tools, and other geodetic and reality capture equipment
  • Transfer files between data collection systems and internal company project folders
  • Perform quality checks and process field data, including downloading, maintaining, and verifying project data and reports while managing the database
  • Maintain professional and productive working relationships with clients and coworkers
  • Train field team members on the operation of survey equipment, including total station, GPS, levels, and data collectors used for field survey data collection
  • Perform pre-field staking calculations and prepare as‑staked cutsheets and deliverables as needed
  • Operate a company vehicle in support of field activities
  • Follow safety and security procedures at all times
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Associates degree, or certificate, in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering preferred
  • 4 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the construction industry preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of surveying fundamentals and procedures recognized in the region work is being performed
  • Knowledge of modern survey equipment, devices, and methods
  • Experience with Trimble, Leica Robotic Total Stations, Data Collectors and GPS preferred
  • Problem solving techniques
  • Knowledge of jurisdictional and industry requirements
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment
  • Possesses oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to professionally represent IMEG
  • RPLS/SI preferred but not required
  • Ability to collect field data in an organized, neat and professional manner for boundary, topographic, design and construction stakeout projects.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to be insured by IMEG carrier; must consent to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background check
  • Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays

Physical Requirements

All weather year round outdoor work environment with seasonal conditions including extreme heat index and wind‑chill/low temperatures. Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull. Will have exposure to loud noises.

Salary Ranges (by jurisdiction, in compliance with local laws):

Salary Range: $24.00 - $30.00/hr Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
