Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Crew Chief for our Manassas, VA office. The Crew Chief will lead daily operations of all surveying field crew activities, directing crew members to acquire survey data and complete assigned land surveying field projects.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily Field Crew operations to provide data for boundary, topographic, and construction stakeout surveys.
  • Operate, maintain, and care for survey equipment and data‑collection hardware.
  • Transfer files between data collection devices and internal company project folders.
  • Perform quality checks and process field data, download and verify accuracy of project reports, and manage the database.
  • Maintain professional and productive relationships with all clients and coworkers.
  • Train individuals to operate survey equipment including total stations, GPS, levels, and data collectors.
  • Perform pre‑field staking calculations and prepare as‑staked cut sheets and deliverables.
  • Operate a company vehicle.
  • Observe safety and security procedures.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of surveying fundamentals and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern survey equipment, devices, and methods.
  • Experience with Trimble, Leica Robotic Total Stations, data collectors, and GPS preferred.
  • Problem‑solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of jurisdictional and industry requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to professionally represent IMEG.
  • RPLS/SI preferred but not required.
  • Ability to collect field data in an organized, neat, and professional manner.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by IMEG carrier; consent to a Motor Vehicle Record background check.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays.
Education & Experience
  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience, 8 years preferred, in the construction industry.
Physical Requirements
  • All‑weather outdoor work year‑round with seasonal conditions including extreme heat and high wind‑chill.
  • Regularly sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and grasp or pull.
  • Exposure to loud noises.

Not Eligible for Visa Sponsorship.

Pay Range: $24–30 per hour. Pay may vary by location and factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
