Pinellas County Government is currently hiring a Crew Chief 1. This is for oversight work in the Landscape Services of Stormwater & Vegetation Division. This is a working crew chief position, in which they will work along side of their crew doing labor tasks such as hand cleaning ditches, spot tree trimming, trash and debris removal. Additionally, the Crew Chief 1 will assist in getting vehicles ready each morning with supplies, preparing daily tasks and being responsible for your crew.
Work Schedule: Four (4), 10 hour shifts
What Would You Do?
- Supervises crews and equipment engaged in ditch cleaning, spot tree trimming, litter and debris removal.
- Performs maintenance of major drainage.
- Operates chainsaws and other related equipment.
- Performs other related work as assigned or required.
What Do you Need To Have?
- 2 years of public works, utilities, general construction, maintenance, or repair work that includes lead worker, supervision, or supervisory training; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Must obtain a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class B within 1 year of hire.
- Must obtain a Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification (Formerly Maintenance of Traffic) within 1 year of hire.This class is done internally.
- Must obtain a BMP Certification (Best Management Practices) within 1 year of hire.
- Requires working Monday thru Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- Required to work during hurricane season and disasters, if called
Highly Desirable
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class B.
- Possession of a Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification (Formerly Maintenance of Traffic).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to plan, schedule, supervise, read service requests, diagrams and sketches. Also keeping a daily work log and inputting daily work in a tablet, is a must.
- Ability to work with subordinates on all above.
- Ability to determine what level of service is needed on each job site.
- Ability to be flexible to change from one crew to another.
