Job summary

Uber is seeking a Creative Director to lead our Product Expression team, defining how illustration, motion, visual storytelling, and moments of delight show up across Uber's products.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team, set a long‑term creative vision, and collaborate across Design Systems, Product Design, Brand, Marketing, Engineering, and Product to scale the expressive language globally.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in creative direction, product design, visual design, motion design, illustration, or related disciplines.
• Significant experience leading creative teams and setting creative direction for large‑scale digital products, brands, or experiences.
• A portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft and creative leadership across multiple forms of expression, with strength in motion, illustration, or visual design.
• Demonstrated ability to remain hands‑on while leading and elevating the work of others.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate decisions and build alignment across audiences.

Responsibilities

• Define Uber's product expression and establish a clear creative vision for illustration, motion, and storytelling across products.
• Set an exceptional bar for craft and help teams reach it without sacrificing speed or scalability.
• Be a hands‑on creative leader, prototyping ideas and directing visual and motion work alongside designers.
• Lead and grow the Expression team, fostering a culture of experimentation, critique, and craft.
• Create systems, not just moments, turning ideas into reusable principles and scalable patterns.
• Partner with Product Design and Design Systems to embed expression into the user experience.
• Navigate a matrix organization and align multiple teams toward a coherent creative vision.
• Connect Brand and Product, translating brand into meaningful product experiences.
• Lead through influence, articulating rationale and moving senior leaders and teams.
• Champion experimentation and quick prototyping before converging on scalable solutions.
• Direct and participate in reviews, critiques, and explorations to strengthen the work.
• Move fluidly between long‑term strategy and the timing/detail of animation and composition.
