Job summary

Uber Technologies Inc. seeks a Creative Director to lead the Product Expression team, defining how illustration, motion, visual storytelling, and moments of delight appear across Uber’s products.

You’ll shape a compelling creative vision and guide a multidisciplinary team from concept through craft. This senior role blends hands-on creation with leadership: set standards for craft, build scalable systems, partner with Design Systems and Product Design, and influence across a matrix organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in creative direction, product design, visual design, motion design, illustration, or related disciplines.
• Significant experience leading creative teams and setting direction for large-scale digital products, brands, or experiences.
• Portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft and leadership across motion, illustration, visual design, or interactive experiences.
• Demonstrated ability to stay hands-on while elevating the work of others.
• Excellent visual, verbal, and written communication with ability to align creative and non-creative audiences.

Responsibilities

• Define Uber’s product expression and establish a clear creative vision across illustration, motion, storytelling, and moments of delight.
• Set an exceptional bar for craft, ensuring speed and scalability without sacrificing quality.
• Be a hands-on leader, prototyping ideas and providing direct involvement when beneficial.
• Lead and grow the Expression team, fostering experimentation, critique, and high craft.
• Create reusable systems, patterns, and tooling that scale across products and teams.
• Collaborate with Product Design and Design Systems to integrate expression into the product experience.
• Influence a matrix organization and align cross-functional partners across Product, Brand, Marketing, and Engineering.
• Translate the Uber brand into meaningful product experiences while honoring expressiveness and usability.
