Job summary

Profluent, a frontier AI biology lab based in Emeryville, CA, is seeking a Creative Director to own and evolve our creative function. You will shape how the company looks, sounds, and engages with scientists, partners, and the press, balancing scientific accuracy with visual clarity and storytelling.

You'll lead end-to-end creative work, collaborate with the Head of Comms & Brand and the CEO, and progressively build a small team and budget.

Qualifications

10–12 years in brand and creative roles.
Track record leading creative as a Creative Director or equivalent across multiple mediums.
Portfolio demonstrates creative leadership with motion/video, editorial/digital design, environmental/event design, and merch.
Background in bio, AI, or deep tech.
Fluent with modern design tools (Figma, Webflow, Adobe) and able to learn new tools.
Fluent in project management tools (Slack, Google Workspace, Notion, Airtable).
Experience owning a budget and managing people or external teams.
Bias toward shipping: publish work, not just hand off.
Strong taste, judgment, and ability to set direction with founders and scientists.

Responsibilities

Translate Profluent's frontier science into a brand and public presence.
Own the creative process from concept to finished work with senior leadership.
Evolve Profluent's visual identity system: typography, color, imagery, motion, and design standards.
Own the creative budget and build the function; hire and lead designers and producers.
Manage vendors and contractors as extensions of the team.
Art direct imagery and video, including podcasts and launch assets.
Design decks, white papers, and assets for a technical audience.
Lead the website through cosmetic and structural changes with design/dev contractors.
Create content for social channels and executive communications.
Define our presence at conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, JPM, BIO).
Build brand and design systems, templates, asset libraries, SOPs.
