Job summary

Bridgewater State University is seeking a Title Work Study Costume Shop Assistant to support the Costume Shop as it helps produce six Theatre and Dance Department productions each year. You will learn technical skills for building and altering costumes and develop practical organization and creative problem solving.

In this role you will assist with costume preparation, crafting projects, fittings, stock documentation, and shop maintenance, under the supervision of the Costume Shop Coordinator.

Qualifications

• Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for at least six credits.
• Must have Work Study award in financial aid package.
• Interest in costume, sewing, and theatre production.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing costumes for department productions, including hand sewing, machine sewing, alterations, fabric cutting, and craft projects.
• Perform data entry and other communications work.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of the shop and storage areas.
• Document costume stock.
• Assist in the measurement of cast members as needed.
• Care for costume garments including laundering, ironing, and steaming.
• Prepare dressing rooms and strike-related tasks, and set up backstage areas.
• Assist in costume fittings as needed.
