Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine seeks a Creative Arts Therapist (Art or Dance/Movement Therapist) to support the NEA Creative Forces at Joint Base Lewis-McCord, WA.

Therapists will develop, implement, and evaluate therapies programs for patients and collaborate with physicians, staff, and families to foster healing. Responsibilities include assessing needs, documenting interventions, obtaining art supplies, and coordinating with psychosocial services.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in an accredited art therapy program.
• Minimum two years of relevant clinical internship or work experience.
• Experience with military-connected patients preferred.

HJF is seeking a Creative Arts Therapist (Art or Dance/Movement Therapist) to support the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Creative Forces located at Joint Base Lewis-McCord, WA. The Creative Arts Therapists will develop, implement, and evaluate creative arts therapies program for patients. Fosters positive and professional interpersonal relationships with patients/families, physicians, hospital staff, community representatives and visitors. Effectively uses interpersonal communication skills to promote a healing environment.
The mission of the Creative Forces Network is to improve the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of trauma-exposed military service members and veterans, as well as their families and caregivers, by increasing knowledge of and access to clinical creative arts therapies and community arts engagement.
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. Responsibilities

• Works with patients, families, and staff to understand the needs of the patient population from a creative therapy perspective. Meets individual patients and parents/guardians to explain their creative arts therapy program. Assesses individual and/or group needs, identifies goals based on assessment, and develops plan as appropriate.
• Participates in developing appropriate documentation standards to reflect creative arts therapies assessments and interventions/ directives. Documents interventions in patient medical records according to standards developed for creative arts therapies documentation.
• Participates in developing materials to explain and promote the program.
• Participates in designing measure to evaluate effectiveness of the program.
• Obtains and maintains an age-appropriate and safe selection and quantity of art supplies, equipment, and other materials for the program.
• Participates as active member of support programs to integrate creative arts therapies programs with other psychosocial services.
• Collaborates with relevant departmental and hospital staff to address patient or systemic problems that arise.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Art Therapist: Master’s degree from an accredited art therapy program. A minimum of two (2) years (or higher) of relevant clinical internship or work experience.
• Dance/ Movement Therapist: Master’s degree (or higher) in dance/movement therapy or a dance/movement therapy equivalency degree program accredited by the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA). A minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical internship or work experience.
• Experience working with military connected patients exposed to trauma, or similar populations preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to relate to diverse patient populations.
• Sensitivity to individuals from varied backgrounds and cultures.
• Competency with age-specific needs from childhood through young adulthood.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

• Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.

Licenses and Certifications

• Art Therapist: ATR-P, ATR or ATR-BC through continuing education as required by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB).
• Dance/Movement Therapist: R-DMT or BC-DMT through continuing education as required by the Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board (DMTCB).

Work Environment

• This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

• The annual salary range for this position is $80,168.40-$85,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
