Job summary

The University of Connecticut's Department of Animal Sciences is seeking a full-time UConn Creamery Manager 1 to oversee ice cream, cheese and dairy product production for the UConn Dairy Bar and related outlets on the Storrs campus.

The role leads daily manufacturing activities, supervises two full-time staff and student workers, develops new products, ensures HACCP/PCQI compliance, and maintains safety, quality, and regulatory standards across the creamery operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years in dairy processing or food production.
• Experience supervising employees and directing operations.
• Proven track record in food safety, sanitation, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with HACCP, PCQI requirements or similar programs.
• Experience with inventory management, purchasing and supply ordering.
• Experience monitoring budgets, costs and production metrics.
• Experience maintaining processing equipment and facilities.
• Experience developing or improving operational processes, products, or services.
• Current ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Directs and oversees daily Creamery operations for ice cream, cheese and dairy products.
• Supervises two full-time employees and student staff; recruiting, onboarding and evaluations.
• Coordinates production schedules to ensure inventory and product availability.
• Develops new ice cream and dairy products, including seasonal and limited-edition items.
• Maintains safe, sanitary conditions and regulatory compliance in production.
• Oversees food safety programs, HACCP and PCQI compliance, sanitation and QA.
• Ensures regulatory compliance for dairy processing, licensing and labeling.
• Maintains procedures, documentation, records and corrective actions.
• Oversees equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance planning.
• Tracks expenditures, inventory usage and purchasing; supports budget planning.
• Oversees purchasing, receiving and inventory of ingredients and supplies.
• Maintains records and reports on safety, production, inspections and compliance.
• Implements process improvements, product quality and customer engagement initiatives.
• Promotes Creamery products through events and outreach with CAHNR Communications.
