Job summary

The University of Minnesota—Boynton Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to provide sterile equipment and supplies through decontamination, sterilization and processing of instruments in accordance with federal and state guidelines. The role emphasizes independent work and teamwork to ensure aseptic handling and timely distribution of supplies.

The position requires CRCST certification, strong communication, and computer skills, with up to 40 hours weekly between 7:30 AM and 5:30

Qualifications

  • Must be 18+ years old with education and/or experience to meet required principal competencies.
  • HSPA Certification as a Central Processing Technician (CRCST); Certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with audiences at all levels of an organization; Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with computer systems, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Schedule flexibility and reliability; works up to 40 hours per week between 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM.
  • Two years of experience in handling and sterilization processing of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation preferred.
  • Prefers knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Collect used and contaminated equipment for sorting and decontamination.
  • Cleans instruments and supplies to remove contaminants prior to sterilization.
  • Operates decontamination equipment including washers/disinfectors and ultrasonic machines.
  • Performs decontamination, assembly, packaging, labeling and sterilization per policies.
  • Assembles instrument sets and trays; prepares and organizes for procedures.
  • Prepares, packs and delivers sterilized instruments for clinical procedures.
  • Maintains records of sterilization loads and equipment maintenance.
  • Follows infection control and safety standards; responds to urgent requests.
  • Identifies unsafe conditions or malfunctions and reports to supervisor.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement and safety drills.
