Job summary

MAAG Gala inc. in Eagle Rock, VA is seeking a Crating Technician to accurately measure, cut, assemble, and secure crates for dryers and TWS systems, prioritizing on-time delivery.

You will work primarily at Eagle Rock with occasional crates at Roanoke, operate forklifts, follow safety guidelines, and contribute to packaging quality while supporting overtime as needed.

Strong candidates have carpentry or manufacturing background and a HS diploma.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Prior carpentry, framing, or industrial shipping experience is preferred.
• Forklift training or certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Measure and cut lumber from blueprints or work orders and prepare precise parts.
• Assemble custom skids, pallets, crates using nail guns and power tools.
• Pack and secure items inside crates to prevent movement during transit.
• Label, weigh, and document shipments with compliance markings.
• Operate forklifts to move materials and load shipments.
• Follow safety, quality, and environmental policies; OT/weekends as needed.

Main position objectives

The Crating Technician provides the highest quality work ethic and character for crating the Maag family of equipment to include: Dryers of all sizes and TWS systems with an emphasis on hitting customer delivery dates.

• Measure and Cut: Read blueprints, diagrams, or work orders to determine exact dimensions, then cut lumber using power saws and hand tools.
• Assemble: Build custom skids, pallets, boxes, and crates using nail guns, staplers, screws, and drills.
• Secure and Protect: Position and fasten items inside crates using blocking, bracing, strapping, and foam padding to prevent shifting during transit. Perform leak tests on dryer and tank housings
• Label and Document: Weigh packages, verify parts, and apply required shipping or international export markings.
• Material Handling: Operate forklifts or pallet jacks to move heavy materials and load finished shipments.
• The incumbent considers all interests of quality, accident prevention and occupational safety as well as environmental safety in a preventive manner within his scope of responsibility and supports the avoidance of damages to people, facilities, assets, material and environment actively.
• The incumbent is obliged to perform tasks requested by management that relate to his position scope or arise from company needs including OT and weekends and holidays when needed. This job description reflects current status, right to make changes reserved.
• Work in this position is mainly at the Eagle Rock location, but the incumbent could/will be asked to crate at the Roanoke facility when needed. While performing the duties of this job in a factory setting, the employee will be moving crated projects on the job floor. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud and PPE may be required.

• The employee will be required to have fork lift training and regularly use lifts and ladders to assemble structures off of the ground five feet or higher.
