Job summary

American Equipment Holdings in Rock Springs, WY is hiring a Crane Service Technician Level 1 to perform inspections, maintenance and repairs on overhead cranes and hoists in accordance with OEM manuals and OSHA standards.

You will service cranes with VFDs or contactor controls, troubleshoot brake systems, read wiring diagrams, and install new crane equipment, while documenting service activities and maintaining safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certifications preferred.
• Experience in crane service or industrial maintenance.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work at heights and in industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair overhead cranes and hoists per OEM and OSHA standards.
• Service 3-motion cranes with VFDs or contactor controls, including pendants or remotes.
• Troubleshoot and repair brake systems (e.g., Whiting SESA, Magnetek thruster).
• Demonstrate understanding of AC control circuits and Ohm’s Law.
• Troubleshoot and repair contactor-based motor control systems.
• Rig up and install crane/hoist equipment with safe procedures.
• Diagnose mechanical components including wheels, bearings, and reducers.
• Identify crane control components in hoist and bridge panels.
• Communicate repair plans and required parts to customers.
• Maintain accurate service records and follow safety policies.

Position Summary:

American Equipment, a leader in in-house crane fabrication, parts, service, and material handling is hiring a Crane Service Technician Level 1 for the Rock Springs, WY

Performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs on overhead cranes and hoists in accordance with OEM manuals and OSHA standards.

• Services 3-motion cranes equipped with VFDs (no encoder) or contactor controls, including 5-speed pendants or radio remotes.
• Troubleshoots and repairs uncommon brake systems (e.g., Whiting SESA and Magnetek thruster brakes).
• Demonstrates solid understanding of AC control circuits, including Ohm’s Law and voltage drop calculations.
• Troubleshoots and repairs contactor-based motor control systems.
• Rigs up and installs new crane and hoist equipment using proper safety and mechanical procedures.
• Diagnoses mechanical components including wheels, bearings, and reducers.
• Identifies and understands crane control components in hoist and bridge panels.
• Communicates clearly and professionally with customers regarding repair plans, troubleshooting steps, and required parts.
• Maintains accurate service records and documentation while strictly following all safety procedures and company policies.
