Job summary

thyssenkrupp in Texas is seeking a warehouse/steel service center crane operator to load and unload coils, sheets, and bundles, and to manage material flow safely from processing lines to storage racks. The role requires crane/rigger skills, adherence to safety, and the ability to read work orders and inventory labels.

This on-site position emphasizes safe crane operation, accurate inventory handling, and teamwork with machine operators and supervisors in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1–2 years of overhead crane experience in manufacturing, warehouse or steel service center.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices, load charts, and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, inventory labels and safety instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and workplace safety.
  • Basic computer/scanner skills for inventory/shipping systems (preferred).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Operate overhead bridge cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts to move steel coils, sheets and bundles.
  • Safely lift, transport, and position materials to processing lines and storage racks.
  • Load and unload trucks and railcars according to schedules.
  • Perform daily crane inspections and safety checklists.
  • Maintain material identification and inventory accuracy.
  • Coordinate material flow with machine operators and supervisors.
  • Follow safety rules, OSHA regulations, and rigging best practices.

Job Summary

Apply metal to customer orders and accurately process material according to the work order specifications. Ensure that processing equipment is maintained in a safe and clean condition. Maintain processing area in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Complete all required information entry accurately. Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Operate overhead bridge cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts as needed to move, load, and unload steel coils, sheets, and bundles.
  • Safely lift, transport, and position materials to and from processing lines (slitting, cut-to-length, shearing) and storage racks.
  • Load and unload trucks and railcars in accordance with shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Perform daily crane inspections and complete required safety checklists.
  • Maintain material identification and ensure accurate placement per inventory system.
  • Communicate with machine operators, loaders, and supervisors to coordinate material flow.
  • Follow company safety rules, OSHA regulations, and best practices for rigging and load securement.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and material discrepancies immediately.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, quality, and safety.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous warehouse experience - especially in the metals industry
  • Previous forklift experience
  • Use of hand held measuring tools
  • Computer literate.
