Job summary

thyssenkrupp Materials NA is hiring for a safety‑minded Slitting Line Operator to join our production team on the warehouse floor. You will safely operate slitting line equipment, set up tooling, inspect coils, and maintain clean, organized work areas while recording data and ensuring quality.

The role requires basic math, reading/writing abilities, and lifting up to 40 lbs, with training on cranes and forklifts.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities

Job Summary: Apply metal to customer orders and accurately process material according to the work order specifications. Ensure that processing equipment is maintained in a safe and clean condition. Maintain processing area in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Complete all required information entry accurately. Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Safely operate slitting line equipment to process material according to work order and customer specifications.
  • Set up and adjust slitting equipment, tooling, spacers, guides, and associated machinery to meet production requirements.
  • Pull, inspect, and verify coils and material prior to processing.
  • Review and interpret setup notes, work orders, and specifications to ensure accurate processing.
  • Monitor slitting operations and make adjustments as necessary to maintain product quality and productivity.
  • Perform quality inspections and verify slit material dimensions and specifications using established sampling plans and measuring devices.
  • Accurately record inspection results and production information.
  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment as required.
  • Properly identify, tag, and track material throughout the production process.
  • Package, band, and prepare finished product according to customer and company requirements.
  • Operate weighing scales and record required production and inspection measurements.
  • Identify, document, and segregate scrap and non-conforming material.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, housekeeping, and cleaning of slitting equipment and work areas.
  • Communicate material, quality, or production concerns to supervision and other appropriate personnel.
  • Provide feedback regarding machine performance, process improvements, and product quality.
  • Maintain all issued measuring and inspection equipment in proper working condition.
  • Train and assist other employees as required.
  • Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and quality initiatives.
  • Complete all responsibilities in a manner that promotes a safe work environment and complies with all safety policies and procedures.
  • This position works directly on the warehouse floor and around heavy machinery, moving coils, overhead cranes, forklifts, and powered industrial equipment.

  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic computer skills and experience entering production data into operating systems.
