Job summary

thyssenkrupp Materials NA in Sinton, TX is seeking a skilled material handler/operator to apply metal to customer orders and accurately process material per work order specifications.   • Ability to read and interpret work orders, inventory labels and safety instructions is essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety are necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Operate overhead bridge cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts to move and unload steel coils, sheets, and bundles.
  • Safely lift, transport, and position materials to and from processing lines and storage racks.
  • Load and unload trucks and railcars per shipping schedules.
  • Perform daily crane inspections and complete safety checklists.
  • Maintain accurate material identification and inventory placement per system.
  • Coordinate material flow with machine operators and supervisors.
  • Adhere to safety rules, OSHA regulations, and rigging best practices.
  • Support a clean and organized work environment and report issues promptly.

Your responsibilities
Job Summary

Apply metal to customer orders and accurately process material according to the work order specifications. Ensure that processing equipment is maintained in a safe and clean condition. Maintain processing area in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Complete all required information entry accurately. Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Operate overhead bridge cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts as needed to move, load, and unload steel coils, sheets, and bundles.
  • Safely lift, transport, and position materials to and from processing lines (slitting, cut-to-length, shearing) and storage racks.
  • Load and unload trucks and railcars in accordance with shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Perform daily crane inspections and complete required safety checklists.
  • Maintain material identification and ensure accurate placement per inventory system.
  • Communicate with machine operators, loaders, and supervisors to coordinate material flow.
  • Follow company safety rules, OSHA regulations, and best practices for rigging and load securement.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and material discrepancies immediately.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, quality, and safety.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience operating overhead cranes in a manufacturing, warehouse, or steel service center environment.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices, load charts, and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, inventory labels, and safety instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Basic computer or scanner skills for inventory and shipping systems (preferred).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
Preferred Requirements
  • Previous warehouse experience - especially in the metals industry
  • Previous forklift experience
  • Use of hand held measuring tools
  • Computer literate.
