The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
THIS IS A REPRESENTED POSITION.
Responsibilities
Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Apply required technical knowledge to solve problems that require an innovative approach, using keen observation and experience.
- Lift and transport various large objects using lifting and rigging equipment including mobile and overhead cranes, forklifts, dollies, slings, shackles, come-a-longs, hoists, jacks, and assorted shop tools such as crimpers, hydraulic and hand binders, flare machines, torque wrenches, calipers, etc.
- Operate and maintain all types of light and heavy equipment, both diesel and gasoline powered.
- Determine the quadrant of operation, read/load charts, and understand the structural/stability aspects of cranes, including dynamic and shock loading.
- Select, secure, and adjust appropriate chains, cables, slings, hooks, and other lifting devices to properly load/unload and balance equipment and items moved by mobile cranes.
- Perform safety checks on cranes, forklifts, aerial platforms, etc., before and after operations.
- Operate Mobile Hydraulic cranes.
- Operate motor vehicles responsibly, including heavy trucks and truck-trailers (4-ton and over), to transport materials and equipment.
- Operate ground support equipment as required.
- Fabricate wire rope and proof load equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, technical training in the applicable area, and three (3) years of experience.
NCCCO certification and Class A CDL with HAZMAT endorsement are preferred.
Depending on experience and business needs, candidates may be considered at any level for this position.

- Extended periods of sitting or standing, walking on uneven terrain, and quick evacuation in emergencies.
Work Environment
- Work inside and outside at the test complex.
- Travel within the site may be required.
- Climbing ladders, navigating uneven terrain, and working in hazardous areas.
- Adherence to safety standards is mandatory.
Equipment and Machines
- Operate cranes, heavy equipment, hand tools, and utilize computer systems for record keeping and reporting.

- Full-time hours, with possible overtime, weekends, and shift work.
- Effective communication and travel as needed.
