Job summary

Qualifications

In this role, you will operate a hydraulic crane to safely and efficiently move scrap metal throughout the yard. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and able to work independently to complete daily operational tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate a hydraulic crane to load and unload scrap metal materials, including bales, bins, boxes, crates, and other containers
  • Load and unload materials from customer trailers, truck beds, bins, and other transport equipment
  • Transfer materials safely and efficiently from one location to another within the yard
  • Collect and manage any falling or displaced materials during transfer operations
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment by removing debris and potential hazards
  • Follow all site safety procedures, operational guidelines, and company protocols
  • Maintain accurate service logs and perform required equipment checks and maintenance documentation
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support yard operations
Required Skills & Abilities
  • OSHA or safety certification preferred (not required)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with scrap metal materials and commodities is a plus
  • Ability to perform all physical, mental, and environmental job functions
  • Comfort working in all weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain
  • Strong time management, multitasking, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 2+ years of consecutive crane operating experience required
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)
  • May be exposed to moving mechanical equipment and heavy industrial activity
  • Noise levels may be high; hearing protection is required
  • Requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and physical movement required
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work may include confined spaces and other industrial conditions requiring PPE
