Stephenson Equipment, Inc. seeks a Cranes Operations Trainer to support branch operations by delivering crane operator, signalperson, rigger, and safety training through classroom instruction, hands-on practice, and realistic exercises.

The trainer will assess performance, prepare candidates for written and practical exams, conduct site inspections, coordinate training logistics, and travel to training locations as needed.

Formación

Description

Are you a highly organized, dependable professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and training people? SEI is looking for a Cranes Operations Trainer to support our branches operations by delivering crane operator, signalperson, rigger, and related safety training through classroom instruction, hands‑on practical training, and sample exercises.

As a key member of our CCO team, the Crane Operations Trainer instructs participants on safe crane operation, load chart application, rigging practices, signaling, jobsite hazard awareness, equipment setup, and exam‑specific performance expectations in preparation for written and practical exam administration.

As a Crane Inspector, this role is also responsible for performing mobile, articulating, and self‑erecting tower crane and other related equipment inspections per the applicable standards.

What You'll Do
Training Delivery and Classroom Instruction
  • Deliver crane operator, signalperson, rigger, and related safety training using approved classroom materials, participant discussion, demonstrations, and practical examples.
  • Teach crane safety standards, OSHA and industry requirements, jobsite hazard awareness, crane setup considerations, load chart usage, rigging principles, signaling, lift planning concepts, and safe operating practices.
  • Prepare participants for written certification requirements by clearly explaining technical concepts and reinforcing key exam content through review, examples, and knowledge checks.
Hands‑On Training and Practice Exams
  • Provide hands‑on crane operator training for new, developing, and semi‑experienced operators to build safe operating skills, confidence, and jobsite readiness.
  • Conduct hands‑on practical exercises and field‑based training activities that mirror practical exam expectations and reinforce proper crane operation techniques.
  • Observe participant performance during hands‑on activities, identify skill gaps, provide coaching, and give constructive feedback to improve safety, accuracy, control, and confidence.
Practical Exam Administration and Site Coordination
  • Administer CCO practical exams in accordance with applicable testing procedures, examiner requirements, and certification standards.
  • Lay out, measure, and set up practical exam courses and practice areas using required tools, course materials, and equipment.
  • Coordinate crane availability, equipment setup, course layout, candidate flow, and test‑site readiness for practical exams and practice activities.
  • Serve as practical exam test site coordinator when needed and ensure exam areas are safe, organized, properly prepared, and compliant with applicable requirements.
Training Materials, Safety, and Continuous Improvement
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and improving classroom materials, practice exam resources, hands‑on instructional tools, and participant guidance documents.
  • Maintain a safe, professional, and organized learning environment in both classroom and field‑based settings.
  • Communicate professionally with participants, customers, managers, exam candidates, and internal teams regarding training expectations, schedules, exam readiness, and follow‑up needs.
  • Travel to training locations as needed, and work adjusted hours or weekends when required by business needs, training schedules, or exam administration.
Crane Inspection
  • Perform OSHA / ANSI required mobile, articulating, and self‑erecting tower crane and other related equipment inspections.

  • Ability to observe and coach on practical performance, identifies skill gaps, provides constructive feedback, and helps participants build safe operating habits.
  • Ability to prepare candidates for written and practical requirements while following applicable certification, testing, and documentation procedures.
  • Ability to maintain safe classroom, yard, and equipment environments and always reinforces safe work practices.
  • Ability to communicate expectations, instructions, feedback, schedules, and follow‑up needs clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to plan training activities, prepare equipment and exam sites, manage details, and completes required documentation accurately.
  • Ability to review training effectiveness, identifies improvement opportunities, and supports updates to materials, exercises, and practice resources.

Requirements
Education & Experience
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school coursework, degree, or equivalent industry training preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel for training, testing and business needs are required.
  • At least five (5) years of crane operator and related experience, including experience with hydraulic and/or lattice boom cranes, and varied jobsite conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach technical material in a classroom setting and coach participants through hands‑on operation, sample exercises, and practical exam preparation.
  • Strong working knowledge of crane safety, crane components, load charts, rigging, signaling, jobsite setup, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Strong communication, organization, computer, and documentation skills.
Preferred
  • Experience in construction equipment, heavy equipment, automotive, industrial, trucking, agricultural equipment, or related industries.
  • CCO certification or ability to obtain certification in applicable crane operator, signalperson, rigger, lift director, crane inspector, and related categories.
  • CCO Practical Proctor accreditation or ability to obtain accreditation in applicable equipment and testing categories.
  • CCO Test Site Coordinator, Test Administration Coordinator, and EOT Proctor credentials or ability to obtain these credentials.
  • FFA Part 107 Drone Pilots License or ability to obtain a Part 107 Drone Pilots’ License.
  • OSHA 30 Construction certified or ability to obtain the OSHA 30 certification.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
  • The role requires regular work in classroom, office, yard, training‑site, and equipment environments. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in person and through electronic means; operate standard office and presentation equipment; move throughout training areas; stand, walk, observe, demonstrate, and coach during hands‑on activities; and work around cranes, training equipment, moving equipment, weather, noise, dust, and other industrial conditions. Required personal protective equipment must be used when entering designated areas.
