Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking a CPU Implementation Engineer in Santa Clara, CA to drive micro-architecture decisions and deliver block-level CPU designs.

You will work with micro-architects to optimize power, performance and area, and push RTL-to-GDS convergence through synthesis and PnR techniques. The role involves collaboration with CAD/PD teams, top-level floorplanning, timing, and memory macro optimization to improve silicon yield and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of digital logic design and circuits.
• Familiarity with high-performance CPU microarchitecture.

Responsibilities

• Define micro-architecture with micro-architects and support PPA trade-offs.
• Drive RTL-to-GDS design convergence via RTL optimizations for PPA.
• Deliver block-level design and backend closure including silicon yield improvements.
• Collaborate with CAD/PD teams on tool features and adoption in CPU design.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams on floorplanning, timing, power, reliability and testability.
• Define and co-optimize memory macros and standard cells for PPA improvements.

Description

As a CPU Implementation Engineer, you will drive or participate in the following:

• Work with micro-architects to help define the micro-architecture and assist with design feasibility and power, performance, and area (PPA) trade-offs
• Drive RTL-to-GDS design convergence through microarchitecture and logic (RTL) optimizations using synthesis and place-and-route tools targeting ambitious goals for PPA
• Responsible for block-level design delivery along with closure of backend flows, electrical requirements, and improving silicon yield
• Work closely with internal CAD and PD methodology teams on industry-standard synthesis/PNR tool features and optimizations and their adoption in CPU design
• Work with x-functional top-level teams on the aspects of CPU floorplan, timing, power, reliability, and testability
• Work closely with custom IP teams to define and co-optimize memory macros, library standard cells to improve design PPA

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in TCL or Perl

Preferred Qualifications

• Logic design and digital circuits knowledge
• Familiarity with high performance CPU microprocessor architecture
• Experience in using industry standard logic Synthesis, PnR, STA and Power analysis tools, along with floor-planning, pin-placement and timing budgeting
• Ability to work well in a team, self-motivated, and excellent communication skills

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $129,300 and $194,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
