Job summary

The City of Roanoke is seeking a Family Services Specialist in the Child Protective Services Investigations division. This role will assess and investigate allegations of child abuse and neglect while providing needed services to at-risk families and children.

Responsibilities include coordinating services, preparing court affidavits/reports, testifying as needed, and maintaining CPS caseloads with timely documentation. After-hours beeper rotations are part of the job.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a related degree with two years of related experience.
• Ability to read and interpret laws and regulations relevant to CPS.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to document clearly.

Responsibilities

• Interviews clients to assess the nature and extent of needs.
• Maintains case records and prepares written reports of services and actions.
• Makes referrals to community agencies and collaborates with courts as needed.
• Responds to crisis situations and participates in after-hours beeper coverage.
• Works with families to effect changes and assesses safety for children.
