Job Description:

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served is all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services, Clinical Manager of Surgical Services and Central Supply Supervisor, the Central Processing Technician II is independently capable of functioning in all areas of the department. May be assigned Supervisor responsibilities in any area or act as lead in any designated area. Engages in receiving, sterilizing, stirring, rotating and delivering materials, equipment and supplies to various Hospital departments.
Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

Must have experience in all areas of Sterile Processing and demonstrates acceptable knowledge of Microbiology, Anatomy, etc., as determined by Director and at least one (1) year experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a Certificate of Completion for Sterile Processing Course. Highschool Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

  • 1 * Knowledgeable to perform all functions and operations pertaining to the sterilizers. Responsible for operating sterilizers, aerators and their monitoring and cleaning.
  • 2 * Knowledgeable and initiates recall system, in the event of a sterilizer cycle failure.
  • 3 * Must know Microbiology, instrumentation and hand cleaning techniques of equipment and machines. Familiar with cleaning procedures when handling contaminated supplies. Capable of handling and washing equipment according to departmental policy.
  • 4 * Able to inventory and order supplies from General Stores for department.
  • 5 * Orients new employees.
  • 6 * Capable of problem-solving situations.
  • 7 * Responsible for any other duties as assigned by Clinical Supervisor or designee.
  • 8 * Be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time.
