Pipeline Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician (Full Time/Days) for an on-site role at East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital. The incumbent will ensure the safety and proper handling of surgical instruments, decontaminate and sterilize sets, and support cross-disciplinary coordination of patient care under strict HIPAA guidelines.

Qualified applicants should have two years in sterile processing (preferred) and demonstrate strong communication, organization, and adherence to AIDET

Qualifications

• Two (2) years’ experience in Sterile Processing in an acute hospital or Surgical Technician background preferred.
• Critical thinking, service excellence and strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and basic PC skills.

Responsabilités

Job Summary: Sterile Processing Technologists (SPTs) are essential members of the healthcare team, responsible for ensuring the safety of surgical instruments and other materials. Level I SPTs are entry-level positions, but incumbents are expected to learn the full range of duties and responsibilities quickly. Level III SPTs must be certified and have extensive experience. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:

• Apply aseptic technique principles and practices.
• Use, function, and care for surgical instrumentation.
• Identify, decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, store, and distribute surgical instrumentation.
• Understand implant sets, with an emphasis on orthopedic, neurological, and cardiac trays.
• Process equipment.
• Operate, clean, test, monitor, and document sterilizers.
• Order, restock, and put away supplies.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Assemble case carts using Surgeon Preference cards.
• Orient, teach, and share information with others.
• Use cost-effective approaches and practices.
• Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
• Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication.
• Collaborates across disciplines to assist in coordination of patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
• Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter.
• Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.
• Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
• Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services.
• Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
• Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
• May float to other areas of the hospital as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience:

• Two (2) years’ experience as a Sterile Processing Technician working in Sterile Processing Department in an acute hospital OR a Surgical Technician with two (2) years’ experience working in a Sterile Processing Department in an acute hospital, preferred.
• Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.
• A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.
