Job summary

The City of New York seeks a Video Technician to support the District Attorney’s Office with recording, preserving, and managing video evidence from crime scenes and witnesses. The role includes handling BWC footage, duplications, and preparation for court presentations.

Responsibilities include responding to scenes, retrieving footage, and providing technical support for courtroom media delivery, with emphasis on accuracy and reliability in evidence handling.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 24 credits in electronics technology, TV production, broadcast communications, film production, or audio production.
• An associate degree with 12 credits in electronics technology, TV production, broadcast communications, film or audio production plus 1 year related experience.
• A certificate/diploma in electronics or related field plus 2 years of related experience.
• A four-year high school diploma and 3 years of related experience, or a combination as described.

Responsibilities

• Respond to crime scenes, police precincts, hospitals and other locations on request.
• Record on videotape crime scenes and statements and preserve them as evidence.
• Retrieve surveillance footage and create duplications for discovery.
• Support NYPD Body Worn Camera program deployment, including downloading and editing footage.
• Provide technical support for courtroom audio/video presentations and redactions.
• Create duplications or edits of media as needed.
• Play audio/video tapes in court and manage equipment for clear playback.
