Job summary

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Deputy Sheriff for Court Services. This role enforces laws, maintains courtroom security, serves civil papers, and transports prisoners to court appearances.

You will prepare reports, maintain records, and assist with other legal services as needed. Candidates must meet Virginia CJDS qualifications, hold a high school diploma, possess a Virginia driver’s license, and be a US citizen.

Qualifications

• Must be United States citizen.
• Must be 21 years of age prior to academy graduation.
• Virginia driver’s license required.
• Must obtain and maintain all Stafford County Sheriff’s Office and State CJ System training and education requirements for the position.
• Residency in Virginia within 60 days of establishing residency is required.

Responsibilities

• Ensures courtroom security; serves civil process papers; supervises and transports prisoners; prepares and maintains files and records; assists with other legal services.
• Serves summons, notices, court orders, attachments, claims and deliveries, ejections, executions, capias and other papers.
• Transports prisoners and mental cases; may be required to use restraints.
• Makes arrests when necessary and to protect staff and the public.
• Testifies in court and ensures order of courtrooms during sessions.
• Transports and supervises movements of prisoners to and from court; removes unruly individuals from the courtroom.
