Job summary

The 16th Judicial Circuit of Missouri is seeking a vigilant security officer to help keep court facilities safe for youth, staff and the public. You will screen entrants, manage access, log items, and respond to incidents with professionalism.

Responsibilities include operating x-ray and metal-detection equipment, confiscating and logging prohibited items, assisting visitors, and maintaining secure facilities. U.S. citizenship, 21+ years old, and background screenings are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of effective security procedures and techniques.
• Ability to operate and interpret x-ray device and metal detection equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and ability to prepare clear, complete, and logical reports.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to make sound decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Ability to deal effectively with the public.
• Ability to rapidly assess a variety of situations such as those that represent a potential threat to persons or property and choose appropriate course of action; ability to remain calm and in control in emergency situations.
• Must be able to wear protective body armor and ability to operate an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

Responsibilities

• Guard property for illegal entry of persons and forbidden articles by screening all entrants.
• Greet individuals and advise of screening prior to entry, or check credentials for admittance.
• Examine pockets and direct individuals through metal detectors and x-ray screening.
• View x-ray monitor to detect forbidden articles and interrogate items as needed.
• Confiscate, secure and log forbidden items; return or dispose as required.
• Communicate with staff by telephone and walkie-talkie.
• Lock and unlock doors and entrances and inspect security of the facility.
• Provide assistance and information to visitors regarding locations and operations.
• Remove disruptive individuals from courtroom or adjacent areas as needed.
