Job summary

Madera County Superior Court is seeking a Court Reporter to record and transcribe verbatim court proceedings and prepare certified transcripts. The role includes real-time reporting capabilities and maintaining court records in electronic and paper formats.

Under supervision, you will read back to participants, prepare transcripts, and assist with daily reporting duties. Willingness to travel within Madera County and strict adherence to legal standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in professional court reporting is desirable.
• Requires completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
• Must possess California Certified Shorthand Reporter License or equivalent.
• Ability to travel to different sites within Madera County and sit for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Report and transcribe verbatim accounts of court proceedings in accordance with policies and standards.
• Read back all or portions of proceedings to courtroom participants as instructed by the judge.
• Prepare transcripts and review/certify transcripts.
• Maintain a variety of electronic and paper court records.
• Provide transcripts on request of parties or the court.
• Prepare daily transcripts as needed.
• Perform basic legal research to verify names, quotations, and details.
• Attend grand jury proceedings when directed or requested.
