Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Court Operations Specialist to support the Clerk of the Superior Court. You will assist the public, legal community, and government agencies in pursuing legal processes and obtaining records.

The role emphasizes accurate cashiering, document processing, and customer service across busy public counters. Qualifications include at least a high school diploma and clerical or customer service experience.

Qualifications

  • Two years of clerical, administrative, or customer service experience OR
  • One year working at the Clerk of Superior Court as a Justice System Clerk Associate
  • High school diploma or GED
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Responsibilities

  • Performs extensive cashiering functions at public file counters; collects and processes fees, payments, and bonds; processes public records
  • Receives and processes a high quantity of documents and public records from the general public, internal and external customers, legal community, and/or other governmental agencies
  • Provides extensive customer service by responding to inquiries from a variety of sources; completes extensive case and file research; seals/redacts documents per court order; handles processing of exhibits
  • Reviews, files, and processes new complaints, petitions, exhibits, post-decrees; sets hearings; generates minute entries
  • Performs Special Commissioner, Probate Registrar, Notary functions as necessary
  • Performs data entry in automated court systems
  • Cross-trains to provide back-up in other areas and trains coworkers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Pay Range: Anticipated Hiring Pay: $20.25 hourly; Full Pay Range: $20.25 - $32.50 hourly; Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. A higher wage would only be offered based on direct court-related or legal experience (i.e. such as that with a law firm). Additional questions regarding pay can be discussed with HR during the hiring process if you are offered a position. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About The Position

If you're beginning your Court Administration career, our Court Operations Specialist position is the perfect path for you! The Court Operations Specialist performs an essential role for the Clerk of the Superior Court by providing access to the judicial system and related public records. You will assist the public, legal community, Courts, County, and other governmental agencies so they can pursue legal processes and/or obtain and maintain legal and financial records and information.

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple vacancies throughout our various Court locations.

We Require
  • Two years of clerical, administrative, or customer service experience OR

Job Contributions
  • Performs extensive cashiering functions at public file counters; collects and processes fees, payments, and bonds; performs extensive processing of public records
  • Receives and processes a high quantity of documents and public records from the general public, internal and external customers, legal community, and/or other governmental agencies.
  • Provides extensive customer service by responding to a high volume of written and verbal inquiries from a variety of sources; completes extensive case and file research for customers; seals and/or redacts documents and files per court order and/or maintains all sealed, confidential, and discovery materials; processes various complex orders from the Court; and handles the processing of exhibits.
  • Reviews, files, and processes new complaints, petitions, exhibits, post-decrees, and subsequent documents, sets hearings, and generates minute entries.
  • Performs Special Commissioner, Probate Registrar, and/or Notary functions as necessary.
  • Performs data entry functions in automated court systems.
  • Cross-trains to perform back-up assistance in other areas or assignments and provides training to coworkers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily in a business office setting
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 30 pounds and carry, push, or pull a distance of 500 feet
  • Ability to travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles or private vehicles used on County business
