Job summary

The City of Sugar Land is seeking a Court Clerk I in the Municipal Court Department. This role performs a range of clerical duties related to court procedures, laws, and recordkeeping, including assisting the public in person and by phone.

Annual compensation includes a starting hourly rate with comprehensive benefits, day-one coverage, pension options, and opportunities for career growth within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with coursework in typing and PC operations.
• Some college or continuing education coursework is desirable.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• Level I Certification or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the public in a friendly and efficient manner, in person or by phone.
• Process payments of fines, fees and court costs, including credit card payments by phone/online.
• Contact defendants weekly to update information and explain options under state law.
• Check in defendants for docket, provide options, and update contact information.
• Clear warrants upon payment and notify parties as required.
• Coordinate with other court divisions to ensure timely processing of cases.
• Maintain timely communication and document transmission for all parties.
