Job summary

The District Justice Clerk I provides clerical support to process court documents, schedule court hearings and assist the District Justice in Court procedures. Primary duties include docketing cases, scheduling hearings, recording deposits, collecting payments and handling mail.

This entry-level position requires a High School diploma and up to one year of related experience, strong customer service, typing and data entry skills, and the ability to work with the public.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong customer service and ability to work with the public.
  • Typing and data processing skills with good time management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Docket traffic, non-traffic, civil and criminal complaints.
  • Schedule hearings and record depositions at hearings.
  • Collect, record, balance and deposit payments.
  • Mail out citations through certified mail.
  • Prepare, issue or recall warrants and serve to constables.
  • Process and distribute daily mail.
  • Create reports and/or lists as required.
  • Perform clerical functions (type, fax, copy, etc.).
  • Customer Service (answer phones, counter service).
  • Maintain file system.
  • Order and maintain supplies.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required.
