Base pay range

$89,579.00/yr - $134,981.00/yr

The New York State Unified Court System, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department, is recruiting for one (1) position in the Appellate Court Attorney Series. The position will be filled in one of the following titles and will be dependent on the qualifications and experience of the applicants selected: Principal Appellate Court Attorney, Senior Appellate Court Attorney, Appellate Court Attorney, or Assistant Appellate Court Attorney.

Key Responsibilities:

• Researching and analyzing legal issues in the area of attorney discipline.
• Evaluating testimony and reviewing documentary evidence adduced at attorney disciplinary hearings.
• Identifying relevant case law.
• Preparing confidential memoranda, orders and opinions.
• The position requires the ability to organize, analyze, and interpret legal issues in a high paced environment, to write clear and concise prose, to communicate clearly and succinctly, and to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Prior legal writing experience is essential for this position.

Qualifications:

Principal Appellate Court Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar; and Three years of service in the Senior Appellate Court Attorney title; or Equivalent legal experience.

Senior Appellate Court Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar; and Two years of service in the Appellate Court Attorney title; or Equivalent legal experience.

Appellate Court Attorney: Admission to the New York State Bar. Base Salary: $99,490 + $4,920 Location Pay

Assistant Appellate Court Attorney: Graduation from an accredited law school with an exceptional record of academic achievement such as being a member of the law review, graduating in the top 10% of the class or graduating cum laude or magna cum laude, and admission to the New York State Bar within eighteen months of appointment. Base Salary: $84,659 + $4,920 Location Pay
