Job summary

Sunstone Counseling in Virginia is seeking Evening and/or weekend Couples Counselors (pre-licensed or licensed) to join our office teams and contribute to flexible, community-based care.

Counselors provide guidance on conflicts, communication, intimacy, parenting, premarital issues, infertility, and divorce, while under supervision as required; pre-licensed clinicians receive in-house supervision in IMAGO, Gottman, EFT modalities.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Counseling or Family Therapy required.
• Must obtain State Board Approval to work as a Resident or be licensed in Virginia (LPC/LCSW/LMFT).
• Strong ethics, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial client evaluations and develop treatment plans.
• Provide resources to help clients achieve goals and monitor progress.
• Maintain clinical notes, intake/discharge documents, and safety contracts.
• Attend weekly supervision sessions with a Sunstone supervisor.

Job description

Sunstone Counseling is currently seeking Couples Counselors (pre-licensed or licensed) for evening and/or weekend sessions at one of our Sunstone office locations.

Couples counselors provide professional guidance to help couples resolve conflicts and issues related, but not limited to, communication, intimacy, infidelity, parenting, premarital issues, infertility, and divorce. For pre-licensed couples counselors, Sunstone offers in-house clinical supervision in modalities including, but not limited to, IMAGO, Gottman, and EFT couples counseling techniques.

This couples therapist will provide ethical and professional counseling services through Sunstone Counseling while under the appropriate supervision in residency or as a licensed clinician by the Board of Counseling or Social Work, with a primary dedication to couples counseling.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

To perform in this position successfully, an individual must be able to execute each essential core responsibility satisfactorily. • Perform initial evaluations of client needs and develop customized treatment plans.
• Provide individuals with the resources needed to achieve personal goals.
• Consistently monitor client progress and needs; modify treatment plans as needed.
• Participate in weekly peer groups led by supervisors and other clinical staff.
• Properly prepare and execute insurance reporting, clinical notes, intake and discharge notes, safety contract upon client suicidality, and any other reasonable services required by Sunstone Counseling.
• Attend weekly individual supervision sessions with a Sunstone supervisor to gain clinical support and feedback. (Pre-licensed counselor only).
• Assist with any litigation, as required.
• Work in compliance with all Company policies, regulations, and rules to maintain active licensure to practice psychological counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Abide by the ethical rules of the National Association of Social Workers, the American Counseling Association, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy; if applicable.
• Work only under the direction and supervision of a licensed counselor, licensed psychologist, or licensed social worker appointed by Sunstone Counseling. (Pre-licensed counselor only).

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Counseling or Family Therapy required.
• Must obtain State Board Approval to work as a Resident or have an existing license in the State of Virginia as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong conflict resolution and crisis management abilities.
• A high degree of ethics and a practice of discretion and confidentiality.
• Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent listening skills are required.
• Ability to consider internal and external resources to develop a client treatment plan
• Possess high levels of patience, empathy, and respect.
