Polk County in Des Moines, IA seeks an experienced County Administrator to drive the organization’s strategic priorities, oversee departments, and ensure delivery of major initiatives. You will oversee the Budget Office, contracts, and grants, while guiding policy implementation and interdepartmental collaboration.

The role requires extensive public administration experience, strong leadership, and the ability to translate policy into actionable plans across multiple departments.

Competenze

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance, economics, or a closely related field.
• Eight years of progressively responsible experience in public administration, organizational management, budgeting, finance, or related fields, including supervision.
• Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or related field is preferred.

• Provide executive operational leadership by directing and integrating work of departments and ensuring alignment with priorities.
• Supervise directors, managers, and staff, set goals, monitor performance, and approve corrective actions.
• Direct Budget Office operations, including budget development, monitoring, and long-range planning.
• Develop policy recommendations and implement approved policies within delegated authority.
• Lead multi-department initiatives with scope, milestones, funding, and success metrics.
• Oversee procurement, contracts, grants, and reporting; monitor compliance and outcomes.
• Coordinate Board agendas, prepare analyses, and track decisions and fiscal impact.
• Support Board governance, respond to supervisor requests, and engage with independently elected officials.
• Oversee county-wide communications and public relations; advocate County positions.
• Coordinate continuity planning and address operational risks; manage significant personnel, financial, or public concerns.
• Build leadership teams, support development, and promote professional conduct and collaboration.
