Job summary

Boyd Gaming Corporation in Ohio is seeking a Count Room Clerk to ensure accurate currency counting from the gaming floor and compliance with Ohio Lottery regulations, while delivering extraordinary service to internal and external customers.

This role requires vigilance with large currency volumes, attention to detail, and cooperation with Cage and Accounting departments. Candidates must pass background checks and drug screening and be able to work varying shifts on the gaming floor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two months on-the-job training.
  • Ability to pass background check and regulatory licenses.
  • Must successfully pass alcohol and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain protection of large currency amounts with extreme care.
  • Ensure procedures and controls prevent loss of counted receipts.
  • Count contents of table drop boxes to determine the drop and the win.
  • Count contents of bill validator boxes.
  • Report observations to Count Room Supervisor.
  • Prepare funds with documentation for transfer to Cage Department.
  • Perform final reconciliation of counts and related tasks.
  • Carry out related duties as required.

Job Description

The incumbent in this position is responsible for the activities in the Count Room to ensure the integrity of currency counting derived from the gaming floor, as well as ensuring compliance with the Ohio Lottery Commission regulations. The incumbent is also responsible for providing extraordinary service to both the internal and external customer.

Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(These function are intended as a general illustration of the work performed in this job classification and are not all inclusive for this position)

  • Maintains protection of extremely large amounts of currency, ensuring prevention of loss by providing extreme care and attention to detail.
  • Ensures that procedures and proper controls are affected to protect counted receipts.
  • Conducts a mechanically assisted count of the contents of the table drop boxes to determine, by table, the amount of the drop and the win.
  • Conducts a mechanically assisted count of the contents of the bill validator boxes.
  • Maintains awareness of changes and/or problems which may affect the security of the currency in the Count Room and reports observances to the Count Room Supervisor.
  • Counts and reconciles total funds to ensure the integrity of the count.
  • Transfers the corresponding documentation to the Accounting Department on a daily basis.
  • Prepares funds, with proper documentation for transfer of funds to the Cage Department.
  • Conducts all facets of the count from the opening of the boxes, counting of the drop, verification of documentation and bundling of currency to the final reconciliation of totals, as well as any other related tasks.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

(Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis)

This knowledge and these abilities are typically acquired through the completion of a high school education, or equivalent as well as two months on-the-job training

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: (Licenses, Certifications, Testing, etc):

Ability to maintain all Regulatory licenses within assigned state of employment

Must successfully pass background check

Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening

Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of AS/400 computer system, and 10-key calculator.
  • Ability to operate currency counting equipment.
  • Knowledge of cashiering or banking operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates, coworkers, and management.
  • Ability to count and separate varying denominations of chips and currency.
  • Ability to motivate and direct the performance of subordinates.
Ability to:
  • This position is physical in nature and requires the incumbent to effectively and efficiently move around work areas, bend, squat, reach, twist, carry and move up to 50 pounds retrieving and emptying boxes.
  • Ability to push/pull the drop cart, with assistance, which can weigh up to 2000 pounds
  • Ability to remain standing for majority of shift and make way around the Count Room in an efficient manner.
  • This position spends a large portion of the shift on the gaming floor, and is subject to varying levels of crowds, noise, and smoke, the severity of which depends upon customer volume.
  • Must be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedule as needed.
